Around a hundred mourners, most of them regulars at The Rose of Denmark, went this afternoon to a rainy Falconwood Crematorium to say their farewells to Dave Fowler, the RoD barman for many years.
The CofE minister quoted Churchill during her eulogy and said that Dave had been 'a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma'. I think she hit the nail clean on the head. We all thought we knew him, but in reality we knew almost nothing about him at all. In spite of this we'll miss him a lot for the little we did know.
Really sorry to hear the news of Dave the barman's death, on behalf of our Preston Supporters Group I would like to offer our condolences to all who knew him. We only visited twice but on both occasions this guy was tremendous with us and a true charactor. R I P Dave
Unfortunately for away supporters it was after the game, when the police require that it's home fans only in the pub, that we saw most of Dave. He was the doorkeeper at the back door, and I always exchanged a few words with him as he let us in, either about our result or West Ham's. After the news of his death I was convinced that we'd seen him as usual at the final game against Norwich, but by then he was already being treated in hospital for a lung infection.
Kath and Dermot of the Rose of Denmark did him proud on the day of his funeral. He was a genuinely nice bloke, and it was heartwarming to see how many people, both regulars and Charlton supporters, came to say Goodbye.
Cath and Dermot would like to thank all of you for your kindness and condolences on Dave's
passing. He would have been so proud to have seen his own funeral with all the familar faces who took a day off work to give him a good send off.Thank you all for the flowers and your kind donation but most of all Thank you for mourning with us. We will be erecting a bench at the front in his honour in due course.Looking forward to another year with our loyal supporters and wishing Charlton Athletic the best of luck.

Cath and Dermot, it was our pleasure to join with you in giving Dave a send-off to be proud of. In a couple of weeks we'll all be descending on the RoD again for another season, and I'm sure that we'll be missing Dave for a very long time to come.
